OUR HOTNESS JOURNEY:
The story line and root of this business started after a tombstone unveiling celebration of my beloved parents and the late older sister, Doris Dikeledi Molate.
Chabi has always loved spicy food, so do most of her family members. One of the menus in the above mentioned celebration was “chakalaka” famously known for as the liked South African salad contains of mixed veges, spices, chillies & peppers. She had bought a few boxes of chillies anticipating to make the “special” salad herself for the guests, those who loved hot spicy food and for babalaz “as she grins” however time was and has never been on her side “as she shyfully hides her face”. Therefore only few chillie peppers were used by the caterers and a few boxes remained.
Chabi being a passionate, traverse and good cook, she decided to make use of the remainder chillie peppers into some unique garnish sauce in a 350ml jar, that was December time where braai fire is always ready. The family and few friends tasted it during supper and the garnish sauce did not last to see the next morning. I was impressed with the outcome.
The next morning, the same friends came over to want some of the “sauce” and my response to them was, “I’m selling it”, it was in demand that they were willing to pay for it….. and that was the interesting beginning of this beautiful spicy and hot journey.
The story line was not just a coincidence. As Chabi being a strong believer in her ancestors, this was one of the signs given by them that she is in the right venture of business. ” Ba-robetseng (Badimo), ba dumetse”.
